Ingredients
1 cup Wheat flour, white, all-purpose, enriched, bleached 1/2 cup Cornmeal, degermed, enriched, yellow 1 tbls Sugars, granulated 1 1/2 tsp Leavening agents, baking powder, double-acting, sodium aluminum sulfate 1 1/2 tsp Salt, table 2 tbls Shortening, household, soybean (hydrogenated)-cottonseed (hydrogenated) Diet
1 med Egg, whole, raw, fresh 3/4 cup Milk, reduced fat, fluid, 2% milkfat, with added nonfat milk solids and vitamin A 1/4 cup Oil, vegetable, sunflower, linoleic (less than 60%) 12 oz OSCAR MAYER, Wieners (beef franks)
Directions
1. Combine flour, cornmeal, sugar, baking powder, and salt in a medium bowl.
2. With a pastry blender, cut vegetable shortening into flour mixture until there are fine crumbs.
3. Add egg and milk and blend well.
4. Pour vegetable oil to a 2 inch depth in a deep fryer or large saucepan. Heat to 375 degrees.
5. Pat frankfurter dry with paper towels.
6. Insert a toothpick into the center of each frankfurter. Dip each frankfurter into batter and then into hot oil until golden brown. Drain on paper. Serve hot.
