Yogurt Apple Crunch Bars

Ingredients

  • 2 cupWheat flour, white, all-purpose, enriched, bleached
  • 1 cupSugars, brown
  • 1/4 cupMargarine, regular, unspecified oils, with salt added
  • 1 tspLeavening agents, baking soda
  • 1 tspSpices, cinnamon, ground
  • 1/4 tspSpices, nutmeg, ground
  • 1/8 tspSalt, table
  • 1 tspVanilla extract
  • 8 ozYogurt, plain, whole milk, 8 grams protein per 8 ounce
  • 1 medEgg, whole, raw, fresh
  • 2 cupApples, raw, with skin
  •   Cooking spray
  • 1/4 cupNuts, walnuts, english

Directions

1. Combine the first 3 ingredients in a bowl, beating well at medium speed with an electric mixer.

2. Reserve 2 cups of the flour mixture and set aside. Add the baking soda and next 3 ingredients to remaining flour mixture; beat well.

3. Add vanilla extract and next 2 ingredients; beat well. Stir in chopped apple.

4. Press the reserved 2 cups flour mixture into the bottom of a baking pan coated with cooking spray. Sprinkle walnuts over the flour mixture.

5. Spread apple mixture over the prepared crust.

6. Bake at 350 degrees for 40 minutes, or until browned. Cool completely in the pan on a wire rack.
